Training

Take the Healthy Initiatives Online Training here!

This page is provided as a resource for providers who are looking for training opportunities that meet Boise City Code requirements. The amount of training required for each provider is based on education level and experience.

Boise City Code 5.33.11 states that:

Copies of training certificates indicating completion of the required training shall be included with the renewal application at the time of license renewal. Such training sessions are to be approved by the Licensing Officer.

Level Hours of Required Training

Level I (Assistant Teacher) 14

Level II (Teacher) 10

Level III (Senior Teacher) 8

The Healthy Initiatives online training course counts for 4 hours toward annual training requirements. However this is a one time training, and is attended primarily only by owners or directors of Child Care Facilities (including in-homes). CPR/1st Aid, taken by all Child Care Workers every year, counts as 6 hours toward annual training requirements. Many fantastic and relevant training classes are offered by Idaho STARS, and all official training offered by Idaho STARS is accepted by Boise City as hours toward licensing renewal requirements. You must take the Healthy Initiatives online training prior to receiving your new facility license.  Click the link at the top of this page to get started.

The City Clerk's office recognizes, however, that not all providers are available to attend training's at the times they are offered. With that in mind, and to aid providers in reaching their training requirements, this is a list of Distance Learning providers who provide accepted training (both online and through the mail). Not all training available through these providers is acceptable to meet Boise City Code requirements, although the vast majority is. Please consult code and/or a License Enforcement Officer if you have any question about a certain training meeting requirements.

The City Clerk reserves the right to refuse credit for any course that does not meet the approved standards.  This list is updated as new information becomes available.  Each network provides offers classes within one or more of the following early childhood education core competencies:  (A) - Child Growth, Development and Learning; (B) - Health and Safety; (C) - Relationships with Families; (D) - Developmentally Appropriate Content; (E) - Program Operation; (F) - Observing Children's Behavior; and (G) - Professionalism.
